Although Drools is Java-oriented and provides the ability to handle facts in an object-oriented manner thanks to the ReteOO optimized algorithm, there is always room for improvement. Drools 5.3+ offers us Traits for solving some emergent limitations of Drools: Fact Type hierarchies.
Lunatech has built and continues to be responsible for maintaining several of Sdu's web-based law and jurisprudence document search applications. These applications divide the vast amount of Dutch law and related information into different areas of law, which provides added value to lawyers specialised in certain areas, eg. criminal law or labour law. Customers subscribe on-line to a number of different applications that give access to these different areas of law and different subsets of kinds of information (no jurisprudence, for instance) or access to the complete body of knowledge.
On July 1, 2009, the Dutch Electronic Disclosure Act came into force. The current official published versions of Staatscourant, Staatsblad and Tractatenblad are now available at www.officielebekendmakingen.nl. Sdu Uitgevers, following a government mandate, made the transition from paper to electronic publishing. The government has developed an on-line service desk that mediates between the publications' submitters and producers.
In 2009, BBned hired Lunatech to assist with their first JBoss Rules (Drools) implementation. Lunatech provided a technical expert whose task was to ensure the smooth introduction of the open-source JBoss Rules product and to reduce project technical risk. The work included writing technical design documentation, building part of the software, and coaching BBned's own staff with the new technology.
Lunatech Research is the technology team behind BitLogistics, and have developed their VisibleLogistics platform - a SaaS supply chain management solution. Lunatech implemented VisibleLogistics using a cutting-edge open-source technology stack, based on the Java Enterprise platform. The project team, distributed across three countries, used an agile software development approach and Internet-based collaboration tools to maximise progress while controlling risk and costs.
